Fusion machines for XRF-analysis

XRF-analysis are used to research the composition of a sample, and the accuracy thereof depends on the homogeneity of the sample. The most homogenic samples can be created with a XRF-fusion machine, in which the sample and flux are heated to a liquid in a platinum crucible. After the heating process, the hot liquid is poured into a casting dish, in which it cools down into a bead. The composition of the bead can be determined by means of a spectrometer. IAM Drijfhout supplies the widely used fusion machines of the company XRF Scientific, a leading organization in sample preparation equipment of XRF-analysis. Our portfolio consists of a variety of fusion machines for both XRF and ICP-analysis. The machines differentiate from each other in having a gas or electrical power supply, the level in which the fusion process is automated, and the amount of crucibles that can be tested at the same time. We also offer high-end flux weighing machines, in which the weighing process is automized and accurate results assured.

Types of fusion machines

IAM Drijfhout offers both gas and electrically powered fusion machines. Gas powered machines are usually applied when the required extra equipment (gas supply and extraction facilities) is already present. Otherwise, electrical machines are usually preferred. Both types of machines are available in different sizes to test one up to ten crucibles at the same time. Additionally, all the machines support the testing of both XRF and ICP-analysis and contain different pre-installed fusion processes. The machines of XRF Scientific distinguish themselves in the market in being safe and user-friendly. For example, the machines are equipped with a pleasant touch screen interface and have safety features that meet the highest requirements, ensuring that every part of the machine can be touched during the whole fusion process.

Electrical fusion machines

The electrical fusion machines of the XrFuse series are developed with over 25 years of experience in fusion technology. The machines have ceramic holders, which aid in excluding contamination risks during the fusion process. This is a big advantage when high accuracy is required and when testing a range of elements. The XrFuse is available in different versions to test one (XrFuse 1), two (XrFuse 2), or six (XrFuse 6) samples simultaneously.

Gas fusion machines

Gas fusion machines

The Phoenix II is the safest fusion machine on the market, with a gas connection and internal electrical systems that meet the highest safety demands. The Phoenix II is available with three or six positions, but can be adapted to test one, four, or ten (Phoenix VFD) concurrently. The Phoenix Go gas machine was developed to operate without any additional oxygen and solely with a gas supply. Therefore, it is an economical and compact machine, allowing one sample to be treated. The Phoenix Go 4 can test four samples at the same time.

Flux weighing machine

Flux weighing machine

Accurately weighing the flux is an essential part of the fusion process. The xrWeigh S was developed to automize this repetitive task, and weighs the exact amount of flux by pushing one button. The xrWeigh Carousel is developed to fill a carousel of 18 crucibles or 30 capsules with the exact amount of flux, within 20 minutes. On the top side of the weighing machine, a standard package of flux can be put in, which allows for an easy and efficient filling process. This system also makes it easy to change the type of flux.
